Buying and Selling Safety

Here are some safety tips to keep in mind when buying or selling, this is not by any means an all inclusive list of tips. When buying or selling there is always some level of risk. There are basically two ways you can purchase or sell an item, buyer and seller meet face to face or through the mail.

Remember, if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.

1. Verify the contact information you are given is correct:
1. Call the phone number given to you and verify that the person can be reached.



2. Look up the name in the phone book and see if the name matches the address. There are many phone books on-line.



3. Verify their email address works by sending an email to them.

4. Inspect the item (if possible) before purchasing it.
1. Research the item to see what other people have paid for similar items.

5. Additional items to consider if buyer and seller decide to complete the sale.
1. What is the return policy? Get the return policy in writing, if no returns are allowed, make sure that is in writing.



2. How will the item be paid for? Cash, check, money order, COD, Escrow Service.


6. Face to Face Safety for Buyer and Seller
1. Let someone know where you will be, and when you should be back. Give that person the name, address, and phone number of the person you are meeting.



2. Don't meet alone.



3. If possible, meet at a public place.
